Basking Shark

The basking shark is the second largest fish after the whale shark. It is also one of three plankton-eating sharks. They are found in all the world’s temperate oceans. It is a slow moving filter feeder with an over-sized mouth and highly developed gill rakers. Its teeth are very small and numerous, often numbering 100 per row. The basking shark is listed as Vulnerable due to over fishing. Adults typically reach lengths of 20-26′.
