And for tonight’s sketch…a Raggiana bird of paradise, of the family Paradisaeidae of the order Passeriformes. The majority of bird of paradise species are found in New Guinea, a few in the Maluku Islands and eastern Australia. They have highly elongated and elaborate feathers extending from its head, beak, wings, or tail. They all eat primarily fruits. This particular drawing is a raggiana bird of paradise. It is the national bird of Papua New Guinea. Males are the ones with the elaborate plumage. It plays an important role in dispersing seeds of fruit trees.
