The poison dart frog, or poison arrow frog, is native to Central and South America. There are over 175 species, most of which have brightly colored bodies. They got their name by indigenous use of their toxic secretions to the tips of blow darts. The levels of toxicity varies from species to species. Most are relatively small in size, less than 1″. A few grow to almost 2.5″.
