Maned Wolf

The maned wolf can be found in semi-open habitats and grasslands of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. It’s most distinct features are a black, scruffy mane on a red or tan coat and unusually long legs. Maned wolves are the tallest of the wild dogs. Their long legs are thought to be an adaptation to the tall grasses of their habitat. Unlike other large canines, the maned wolf does not travel in packs. It is a lone hunter. It is not yet endangered but on a ‘near threatened’ classification.
