The mandrill is a primate of the Old World monkey family, Cercopithecidae. They’re closely related to baboons and drills. It’s found in southern Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo. They live primarily in tropical rainforests and forest savanna mosaics. The male mandrill is the most brightly colored primate. Its face has an elongated muzzle with striking coloring and banding. The area around the genitals and anus are multi-colored with bright colors ranging in color from red, pink, blue, scarlet, and purple. Males typically weigh 42-82 lbs and females about half that, 27 lbs on average. They are listed as Vulnerable.
