Kookaburra

The kookaburra is a terrestrial tree kingfisher native to Australia and New Guinea. They aren’t closely associated with water other than that they are found in habitats ranging from humid forests to arid savannas, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water. The kookaburra has been known to eat the young of other birds, mice, snakes, insects, and small reptiles. They’ve also been seen taking goldfish from garden ponds. Australian law protects native birds including the kookaburra, even though they’re of least concern on the endangered species scale.
