Get Back to Drawing

It’s Time to Get Back to Drawing

It’s time for me to get back to drawing. It’s been a while. A long while.

Two and a half years ago I moved from California to Hawaii to help my dad out. He had just turned 89 and was really starting to slow down and becoming more and more unsteady on his feet.

I had a couple small commissions that came with me, which I finished up that year. I also did a few small test runs with some new pastels. But that was about it.

My dad a couple weeks after his 91st birthday and (L-R) my younger sister, Jennifer, myself, and my youngest sister, Melissa.

My dad passed away last summer, exactly one month after his 91st birthday. We’re coming up on 7 months now since he’s been gone. And while his absence still weighs heavy, I think I’ve come to a point where my heart is opening up again to creativity and the head space I’m in is a little less numb.

So, I think it’s time for me to get back to drawing.

I have one commission that got put on hold plus a number of projects I just kept setting to the side over the past two and a half years. What I have in store is a couple pencil portraits, some charcoal portraits, and some pastel portraits.

In addition, I have also purchased a number of online courses for things completely out of my skillset. Well, maybe not completely out of my skillset, but definitely out of my comfort zone. Some are different styles of drawing (including human portraits…yikes!), digital art, ink drawings, comic book art, and even watercolor.

In addition to doing these things, I’m hoping to get most of them on video for YouTube. So, in the coming weeks I’ll be cleaning up my drawing table, taking inventory of my supplies, and setting up lighting and camera equipment so that it’s not awkward and in my way.

I know that once I get back to drawing things will start to flow and before I know it, I’ll be back in the groove.

Stay tuned!
