Frilled Lizard

The frilled lizard is found mainly in northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It spends most of its time in trees feeding on insects and small vertebrates. It’s a relatively large lizard averaging about 33.5 inches in length. It’s frill is a large ruff of skin, which is usually folded back against it’s body. If it’s startled or frightened, the frill extends, displaying bright orange and red scales. This display is also used in territorial displays and during courtship. The frilled lizard is capable of running very quickly on two legs.
