Emu

The emu is native to Australia. It’s the second largest living bird, measuring up to 6’6″ in height. They are a flightless bird that is common over most of mainland Australia, although it avoids heavily populated areas, dense forests, and arid areas. They use their strongly clawed feet as a defense mechanism and can travel up to 31 mph. They feed mostly on vegetation and insects but can go for weeks without food. They ingest stones, glass shards, and bits of metal to aid with digestion. They drink infrequently but will drink huge amounts when available. They will sit in water and are able to swim. They are curious birds and will follow humans and other animals.
