The burrowing owl is found in open landscapes of North and South America in grasslands and other open areas with low vegetation. Unlike other owls, the burrowing owl is most active during the day but still hunt from dusk until dawn when they can best utilize their night vision and superior hearing to their advantage. Their extra long legs allow them to sprint in addition to flying while hunting. Owls eyeballs are in a fixed position in their sockets. This is why owls swivel their heads all around in order to get full detail of their surroundings. It is unclear to me if they tilt their heads upside down to get a better picture of where something is in relation to them or if it has to do with pinpointing sound. Perhaps both?
