Basset Hound

A Basset hound for tonight’s sketch! They are a short-legged dog of the hound family that originated in Great Britain and France. In fact their name is derived from the French word ‘bas’ meaning ‘low’ and ‘et’ meaning ‘rather low’. They are bi or tri-colored as is typical of hounds. An adult dog weighs between 44-77 lbs. It is second only to bloodhounds in scenting ability and number of olfactory receptor cells. Because of their long hanging ears, which do not allow for air circulation, the basset hound is susceptible to ear mites unless their ears are kept clean and dry.
