The Amazonian royal flycatcher is found in the forest and woodland areas of the Amazon basin in northern Bolivia, eastern Peru, eastern Ecuador, eastern Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas, and northern and western Brazil. They’re about 6.5″ in length. They build very large nests, sometimes up to 6′ long on branches near water. The nest usually hangs over the water making it harder for predators to reach them. The Amazonian royal flycatcher has an impressive crest that generally lies back but will fan out when startled or excited, as well as when trying to attract a mate.
