The proboscis monkey is easily distinguished by their impressive noses. They are a reddish brown arboreal (tree) Old World monkey endemic to the southeast Asian island of Borneo. It co-exists with the Bornean orangutan. It belongs to the genus Nasalis. It’s a large species, ranging from 21-30″, excluding the tail. They weigh between 15-50 lbs. Males are much larger than females and are on the upper end of those ranges. Also, the nose of the male proboscis monkey is typically larger than females. Both sexes also have bulging, pot bellies. It eats primarily fruits and leaves but will occasionally eat flowers, seeds, and insects. They are listed as Endangered.
