Lobster

The lobster is a large marine crustacean that lives in crevices or burrows on the sea floor. They are highly prized as seafood and are one of the most profitable commodities in the coastal areas that they inhabit. The lobster is an omnivore, eating prey and some vegetation. They may even resort to cannibalism in captivity. They live an estimated 60 years and do not seem to slow down or weaken with age, possibly due to telomerase, an enzyme responsible for repairing long repetitive DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes. This enzyme is present in most vertebrates during embryonic stages but absent in adult stages. This enzyme is present in lobsters even through adulthood.
