Zebra

All three species of zebra are native to Africa. It’s distinctive black and whte stripes act as camouflage, breaking up the shape of the body, this making it harder to focus on. Two species, the plains and mountain zebras are more horselike and the Grévy’s zebra resembles an ass, to which it is closely related. Grévy’s zebra is the largest of the zebra species and the largest extant wild equid. It got it’s name by French naturalist Émile Oustalet in 1882. He named it after Jules Grévy, then president of France. The Grévy’s zebra is about 8-9.8′ from nose to tail, stands about 13-16 hands (4’7″-5’3″) at the shoulder, and weigh 770-990 lbs. They are listed as Endangered.
