The uakari is the common name for a New World monkey of the genus Cacajao. Their most distinguishing trait is an almost hairless red face and head. They also have little to no subcutaneous fat which gives their faces a skull-like appearance. Unlike other New World monkeys, the tails of the uakari are not even half of their body length. They are found all over the north-western Amazon basin. They are subdued, lethargic, and silent in captivity, but agile, and active in the wild, often leaping over 6 meters. They travel through the lower branches but forage in the upper canopy, looking for fruit, nuts, buds, and leaves.
