The trumpeter hornbill is a medium sized hornbill, 23-26″, weighing 1-2.2 lbs. They are characterized by a large grey casque on the bill. The eyes are brown or red and it’s feathers are black and white. They are gregarious birds found in Burundi, Mozambique, Botswana, Congo, Kenya, the Caprivi strip of Namibia and eastern South Africa. They feed on fruits and large insects. In captivity, the trumpeter hornbill is highly trainable and seem to enjoy companionship with their owners.
