The sugar glider (similar to flying squirrels) prefers sugary nectars, thus their name. They’re native to eastern and northern mainland Australia, Tasmania, Papua New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, the central isles of Indonesia, the Louisiade Archipelago, Halmahera Islands, and north Moluccas. They spend most of their time in trees. They are nocturnal, prefer sweet tree saps but will also hunt small insects and small vertebrates. Via the flap of loose skin which extends from the fifth finger of each hand to the first toe of each foot, they can glide up to 50 meters or more. It’s tail can be used as a rudder. They also happen to be one of the cutest critters I have ever seen.
