Polar Bears

Polar bears native range is the Arctic Circle. Males can weigh up to 1,540 lbs with adult females, about half that size. It is the largest living species of terrestrial predator. The largest on record was 2,209 lbs, shot in northwestern Alaska. It stood at 11’1″ on it’s hind legs. Their preferred food source are seals at the edge of the sea ice. Polar bears can however, live off of their own fat reserves when times are lean. It is considered a vulnerable species with 8 of the 19 subspecies on the decline.
