The pink fairy armadillo is the smallest of the armadillo family. They are endemic to central Argentina. It lives in the grasslands, sandy plains, and dunes. The main source of food for the pink fairy armadillo consists of ants and larvae. They are only 3.5-4.5 inches long and weigh about 4.2 ounces. It’s pink color comes from the visible blood vessels underneath the shell. They are vulnerable to drowning in their burrows during rainstorms, hypothermia (if they are wet at night they cannot thermoregulate), predators such as coyotes, habitat loss and pesticides.
