The oranda is a species of goldfish originating in China. It’s characterized by a prominent bubble-like hood (wen) encasing the entire head except for its eyes and mouth. They’re available in a variety of colors as well as multi-colored. The oranda is sensitive to low water temperatures and may be picked on by other goldfish. If their wen grows too large it may hinder vision. It’s advised to keep fish with this disability together and away from other more able-sighted fish. Separating them can also prevent them from starving. If kept in the same aquarium, the fish that can see better, gets all the food.
