Otherwise known as sea cows, the manatee is fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals. They weigh between 880-1,210 lbs. females tend to be larger than males. They have a set of cheek teeth (molars) that continuously replace themselves as they wear down. The manatee produces enormous amounts of gas to aid in digestion. They inhabit shallow marshy coastal areas and rivers of the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Amazon Basin, and West Africa.
