The Indian purple frog (Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis) is native to India. They are also known as the pignose frog. They are identified by their big bloated bodies and pig-like nose. They are a dark, purplish-grey color. They spend most of the year underground, surfacing for only an approximate two weeks just prior to monsoon season in May to mate. Unlike other burrowing frogs that emerge to feed above ground, they forage underground, feeding mainly on termites. The Indian purple frog is listed as Endangered.
