Do you have your priorities straight? More often times than not, I hear countless excuses as to why people “can’t” fit exercise and healthy eating into their lives. “No time” is the most common one. Within the no time excuse falls the children, work, spouses, etc. Money is another excuse, which I will throw out right now. I set my fitness goals in January of 2011 and for four years I worked out at home, no gym membership needed. And…I dropped 65 pounds doing it.
But let’s spend some time discussing all that falls within the “no time” excuse. I really have heard everything. When did we become so wrapped up in everything else that we sacrificed our own health in order to get everything done? We are a busy society. I cannot deny that. And certain responsibilities should take precedence. I understand that. Work…we all must work if we want a roof over our heads and food on the table. And I will not argue that kids are expensive. They also suck up a lot of time. School, soccer practice, dance recitals, etc. I get it. Here’s my question though…if you fall ill because you neglect your own health, who takes care of all of the above? …Well??
Perhaps our priorities have become skewed over the years. It isn’t selfish to look after our own needs. It’s wise. It’s the best insurance you can have. Looking after your health and fitness keeps you strong, gives you the endurance you need to get through a hectic day, and is the cheapest form of therapy after a stressful day. Take an honest look at your day. Is there something you can move to the bottom of your to-do list? Phone games, TV shows, etc.? Take a hard, honest look. It isn’t necessary to workout for 2 hours every day in order to gain the benefits. Studies have shown that even 30 minutes is beneficial. And, studies have also shown that the same 30 minutes can be broken up into 3 intense 10 minutes sessions.
So, all that being said, what can be more important than your health? If you’re not around, who will take care of all the other stuff that clutters up your day? Don’t you think it’s time to re-evaluate and make yourself a priority?
