Just Get It Out There!
If you’re afraid of posting your art online, you’re not alone. It can be an intimidating thought. Self-doubt wreaks havoc. Crippling fear and ego-crushing self-criticism can prevent you from ever showing your work.
Perhaps you’ve heard that nagging little voice in your head before. “Who’s going to want my stuff? My stuff sucks. I’m just a beginner. My stuff isn’t as good as other artists out there…”
It seems like that little voice never quits.
My advice? Just ignore the voice and do it!

Being afraid of posting your art online is not uncommon.
Think about it. Your artwork is like you baby. You put your heart and soul into it. Do you dare put it online where it could potentially be open to criticism? Let’s face it. There are plenty of trolls out there. But here’s why you shouldn’t let that hold you back:

You never know what floats people’s boats.
Social media gives you access to a huge audience of people with an extremely wide range of tastes. It also allows you to target your audience with the right hashtags. Do your research here to find the hashtags that works for you and your art.

Don’t deny the world your creativity!
Posting your art online is the perfect way to do that. Based on #1, you never know…someone out there is waiting for your art. Case in point, I never thought anyone would want to see my rough practice sketches, but I thought ‘What the hell? Give it a shot. They’re just sitting around my studio gathering dust anyway…” So, I actually took it a step farther and put a few items on Etsy and lo and behold…people wanted them! It goes to show, you never know what people will like. Take a chance and find your audience.

Back in the day, it wasn’t as easy to get your artwork in front of people. Galleries were and still are super picky. They only accept certain types of artwork and specific genres. These days it just takes a few clicks to get your artwork posted on as many social media sites as you want.
All that being said, it’s really not that hard, right? Why not take a chance? Stop being afraid of posting your art online and just do it. The exposure will be good for you. Let your friends and family know where you post your work. Put it on social media. You can totally do this. At the worst, your stuff just sits there or you get a troll or two. Who cares? At best, you gain your own audience. And the best possible outcome…you start getting requests for commissions. Go you!
