Inspiring Doodlers

Inspiring Doodlers

Inspiring doodlers. Really? Awhile back I did two posts, one on Artists That Inspire and the other on Doodling. For the next couple of posts, I thought I’d combine the two into Inspiring Doodlers. And yes, there are doodlers out there who truly inspire me.

Today’s doodler, for example, is English artist Stephanie Baxter, who takes doodling and typography to a new level by combining the two. Her work is intricate and highly detailed. I love the contrast between black and white. I also totally dig when she uses a soft, muted color as an accent. She runs a pretty successful etsy store, a blog, and has a decent following on Instagram. I can only imagine her continued success and the places she’ll go with her talent and creativity.

In all honesty, typography was never really something that piqued my curiosity. I took a class in it once and got a pretty decent grade. It was basically work that kept me busy, but not something I was passionate about. Unlike the instructor of that class who did work for major blockbuster Hollywood films and literally had volumes of work, I just couldn’t get that excitement level up like he did.

Now don’t get me wrong. I admire the work he did and was inspired by it in much the same way that I’m inspired by Stephanie’s work. But what I see in Stephanie’s work is a lot more freedom. It holds a more go-with-the-flow type of feeling that I really like. It’s whimsical, astrological, floral, and so much more. Her typographical illustrations become so much more than just type.

Seriously…I wouldn’t mind having her transform some of my favorite quotes into a works of art for my wall. I can see some of my Dr. Wayne Dyer favorites, others by Anais Nin, Thich Nhat Hanh, Iyanla Vanzant, and so many more done up with her style and flair. I think I could keep her busy for at least a year straight and my walls would be both beautiful and inspirational (on so many levels)!
