Drawing Table

What’s Going On

It’s been awhile since I’ve revealed what’s on my drawing table. So recently, I had the privilege of drawing the portrait of a Boxer dog named, Rocky. I’ve always wanted to draw a Boxer and at long last, that commission finally came across my table. Rocky was a blast to draw and I loved every minute. The only challenge was the timing.

Rocky came across my table right when I changed jobs…a promotion, no less. New department, new location, new responsibilities, new co-workers, new staff (I’m still getting used to that part), and a whole new terminology. I moved from dealing with tax payers to dealing with patients. Office building to a hospital. Property tax lingo to medical lingo. Overwhelming would have been putting it lightly. On most days, all I had energy for after work was to repack my food containers for the next day, set out my clothes, shower, and hit the sack.

And then there was Rocky, sitting there on my drawing table just waiting for me with his head cocked in that way that canines do. It was a lot to take in at once, but fortunately, my client did not have a rushed deadline. I was able to take my time and do the portrait justice. Here are the progress pics of the process…

Next on my table is a birthday gift portrait. This is the third and final member of my roommate’s furry feline family. After the first two birthday gifts, this one is no surprise. She knows what it’s going to be, but I’m keeping it under wraps just the same. So I won’t be posting progress pics of this one. She can know what it is, but she’ll have to wait to see the final unveiling…or unwrapping, as the case may be. I have a month to get him done. So, stay tuned…
