Change Can Be Good

Change Can Be Good

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone…Again

change

Change can be scary and uncomfortable.

It’s been said that change can be good. For any of you that have been following me for any length of time, you know that I have a 9-5 office job and I do my art on the side. You also know that I like the familiar. I am not comfortable with change even though I know sometimes it’s necessary for growth. So it’s with very mixed feelings that I have accepted a promotion with the 9-5.

Why mixed feelings? I’m willing to bet most people would think that a promotion is fantastic news. In most cases, you’d probably be right. However, the position that I’ve held over the past eight years has afforded me a lot of time to work on my drawings and blogs. And I mean a LOT of time! This has been especially true over the past few years as our department has outsourced some of the bigger jobs, thus leaving us with a lot of down time. I never complained, obviously.

Also, I’ll have to go shop for new office attire. I’ve been working in jeans, tees, and tennis shoes for the past eight years. I had a pretty significant drop in weight during that time, so all my “nicer” clothes no longer fit me and have gone to thrift stores. On the plus side of this change, I’ll no longer have to fight traffic, it’s almost five miles closer to home, I won’t have to pay for Chinatown parking anymore (or any parking for that matter), and I won’t have to walk a mile from where I park to the building I work in.

This new job is a promotion in a new department. And with the bigger paycheck comes more responsibility, of course. So naturally, the hours that I had to work on my own personal business, will disappear. I’ve been going back and forth in my mind trying to figure out where I’m going to get blogging time without reducing drawing time, which primarily happens after work and on the weekends.  After going around in circles, I’ve decided the only thing I can do is to cut my blog posts back from twice per week to one post per week.

One thing that really concerned me was that I didn’t want to skimp on the quality of my posts in order to continue posting twice every week. And I feared that if I continued with that schedule, that my posts would start to suffer. So starting next week, look for my weekly post every Wednesday morning. It will have the same great news, tips, tricks, and project updates. In fact, I’ll be starting a new project in the next week or so. Stay tuned for that!

So I’d like to thank you all for hanging with me thus far and hope you’ll continue to do so as I make this change. And as always, if you like what you’re reading, please subscribe if you haven’t already. And if you know of someone who might dig it too, share the link with them. After all, sharing is caring! So thanks again and I’ll see you all back here bright and early next Wednesday morning.
